IPLAN increases scalability to boost digitization with Pandora FMS

Integrating the most recent technologies in all of the company’s areas is essential to change the way it works, proactively, flexibly and efficiently.

IPLAN is a leading company in providing telecommunications and technology services in the main cities of Argentina. Its work began with its foundation in 1999 by George Stewart, Daniel Nofal and Pablo Saubidet. Since then they have earned the trust of hundreds of clients, bringing them proposals tailored to their needs, to travel together the long road towards digital transformation.

Among their many achievements we may find the construction of the most modern data center in the City of Buenos Aires and one of the most complete portfolios of IT solutions in all South America, with cloud services to respond to the increasingly high demands of medium-sized and large companies. Internationally, they have strategic interconnection points (Latam, Brazil, Miami…) that allow them to have a global presence and offer high-performance connectivity services on a global scale.

However, as Maxi Tofani, a member of the engineering team and monitoring reference point at IPLAN, tells us, the evolution speed of new technologies has changed the way the company works and establishes relationships. They have had to quickly adapt to the new trends of digital transformation to stay competitive.

“In this context we live in, there is the need for a change of mind of organizations, under work methods that take advantage of all the potential of digitalization. Integration of the most recent technologies in all the areas of a company is essential to change its way of working, in a proactive way, flexible and efficient. And Pandora FMS coming into IPLAN had a more than important role within this process, since it was one of the first critical projects that was successfully implemented.”

“We consider it essential to have a current, accommodating, scalable and accompanying monitoring solution that will adapt to our evolution process. Pandora FMS offers a wide set of features with great flexibility, generating an environment in which users can easily add value to their platform monitoring and infrastructure. In addition, we trusted its ability to connect all the “actors” of the transformation we were going through”

Finally, given the immediate necessity of renovation of systems, work structures and platforms, in IPLAN they decided to excitedly undertake the evolution process.

Among the strategic challenges of the company to take the step towards its transformation, we find the need to generate a high degree of automation, the greater cross-area visibility of the information, and the fact of knowing the state of health of the IPLAN infrastructure, generating a proactive vision, in an ecosystem of platforms that collaborate with each other, Pandora FMS being one of the main participants.

“All kinds of applications and platforms related to the network, telephony, virtualization, orchestration, BI, AutoProvisioning, among others, coexist within our ecosystem. This is a big monitoring challenge.”

The Argentine company currently has more than 3000 devices including network equipment, infrastructure and DC servers.

Pandora FMS implementation process was simple.

“The SITS solutions partner, an official local partner, pleasantly accompanied us during the deployment stage, which lasted approximately eight weeks, with great predisposition by their team. We achieved the objectives that we had set for that stage, and currently we are still in contact, continuously exchanging knowledge and feedback for the next interactions with Pandora FMS.”

The help of the technical support offered by Pandora FMS technical team was also essential. Always responsive in the resolutions, consultations and suggestions they extended, responding with good predisposition and treatment.

“Also, regarding UX monitoring, -emphasizes Maxi- we are paying special attention to the world of APM (Application Performance Monitoring) given the obvious benefits it brings. Proactive detection of failures, improvement in end user experience, reduction of downtime…”

Benefits of implementing Pandora FMS

Thanks to Pandora FMS, IPLAN now has historical reports that allow them to be aware of platform availability and measure SLAs and repercussions, something extremely useful for technical areas and those related to clients. In addition, a notable improvement is already being observed in the detection of failures and incidents, which reduces troubleshooting times in events. Also, they have recovered the ability to have equipment performance data, to do both diagnosis and monitoring, as well as capacity planning.
This means that even without a background strictly oriented to programming or development, users in general can, by their own means, add value to the tool by creating visual consoles, dashboards and reports with a friendly learning curve.

At this time, IPLAN is moving decisively towards an automation scheme on several fronts, both in AutoProvisioning, Quality, Service Delivery, and Customer Experience. For this, they know that it is extremely necessary to build an observability and monitoring ecosystem, understanding the role that Pandora FMS plays, since it must go along with this change by adopting new technologies, incorporating AI/MLearning and making processes and time more efficient for those involved.

“The benefits of implementing Pandora FMS in IPLAN have been many -continues Maxi- our infrastructure area manager, for example, has managed, with minimal effort, to cover almost all of their DataCenter equipment within Pandora FMS”.
